Vodafone launch Euro Traveller

Vodafone have announced the launch of a new service called Euro Traveller which is designed to reduce costs for customers roaming in Europe.

Customers have the option to pay £2.50 plus VAT per day and then any calls, texts or data use will be taken from their home bundle allowance rather than being additional charges. Incoming calls will not be charged for.

The £2.50 charge is only levied when a customer uses their handset to make a call, send a text or access data. Incoming calls and texts do not trigger the charge.

The previous data allowance (known as Data Traveller) has now been withdrawn and, unless a customer opts into the Euro Traveller service, data use in Europe will be charged at 58.05p per MB.

Vodafone passport is still operation for customers who are already use the service. Customers who are not on Passport and decide not to opt into Euro Traveller will pay 24.04ppm to make a call, 6.63ppm to receive a call and 7.4p per text.

Vodafone and Visa form mPayments partnership

Vodafone and Visa have announced a worldwide partnership to enable consumers to pay for goods and services using their mobile phones, instead of with coins and banknotes.

Vodafone will work with Visa to develop a Vodafone-branded service, enabled by Visa’s prepay services. The service will initially be launched in Germany with an anticipated launch in the UK in the coming financial year.

Aside from its ‘member’ bank agreements this is the largest commercial partnership Visa has ever signed. Announcing the new partnership at Mobile World Congress , Vodafone’s Chief Executive, Vittorio Colao said: “The Vodafone mobile wallet represents the next stage of the smartphone revolution. It offers our customers the speed, simplicity and convenience of managing their everyday transactions with a single wave or tap of their smartphone.”

The customer’s mobile device will hold a Vodafone-branded ‘stored value’ account, with Visa’s systems managing payment processing. The platform will be open to a full range of industries, allowing financial institutions, retailers, transport, utility companies and more to offer payment services within an innovative new Vodafone mobile wallet.

In developed countries across Europe, North America and Australia, with a mature infrastructure for electronic payments, users of the Vodafone stored value account will be able to make purchases at the-point-of sale using Near Field Communications (NFC) enabled smartphones equipped with Visa’s ‘payWave’ service. By simply waving their NFC-equipped smartphone in front of a payment terminal, consumers will be able to make simple, every day purchases such as bus and train tickets, newspapers, magazines or a morning coffee. Consumers will also be able to make high value purchases securely using a passcode.

The service will offer comprehensive security, with NFC encryption and secure SIM card and payments industry technology. In addition to stored value accounts the ‘wallet’ will also hold loyalty scheme points and gift voucher credits, complementing and sometimes replacing a number of plastic cards in the customer’s wallet or purse.

The new relationship with Visa is part of Vodafone’s strategic mCommerce programme, which aims to deliver mPayments, mAdvertising, mCouponing and NFC mWallet in a consistent way across local markets.

Vodafone Data Traveller Update

Vodafone have announced that from the 19th September 2011, when you use mobile internet on your phone in 38 European countries you’ll automatically get the overseas data bundle for businesses, Vodafone Data Traveller.

Vodafone Data Traveller lets you use up to 25MB of data and mobile internet access per day for £1.66 (ex. VAT).
This will replace the old charge of 83p per MB (ex. VAT) that some of our business customers were paying, making it even better value for you to use data in Europe.

To help you keep a close eye on how much data you’ve used Vodafone will also send text messages to your phone to give you:

• a daily reminder of your mobile internet allowance
• an alert when you’ve used 80% and 100% of your daily mobile internet allowance
• an alert when you’ve used more than 25MB in a day

You don’t have to take any action to benefit from Vodafone Data Traveller. Vodafone will automatically add it your business account, for no extra charge, when you’re using data in Europe. Mobile internet access lets you browse the web on your phone, receive and send emails, run internet based apps and instant message.

Applicable countries are currently :
Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey), Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark (inc. Faroe Islands), Estonia, Finland, France, French West Indies, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy (inc. San Marino and Vatican City), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal (inc. Madeira), Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (inc. Vodafone statement re. Sure Signal

Overnight on July 12, a claim appeared that hackers had found security loopholes in Vodafone Sure Signal which could compromise the security of Vodafone’s network. This is untrue: the Vodafone network has not been compromised.

The claims regarding Vodafone Sure Signal, which is a signal booster used indoors, relate to a vulnerability that was detected at the start of 2010. A security patch was issued a few weeks later automatically to all Sure Signal boxes.

As a result, Vodafone Sure Signal customers do not need to take any action to secure their device. We monitor the security of all of our products and services on an ongoing basis and will continue to do so.
